Todd Whiteford – General Manager

With a background in product and graphic design, Todd was part of the start up team of the first Avenue G Cafe way back in 2011, having gained barista experience in Glasgow and more recently in New Zealand. Four and a half years down the line, he is now general manager of the roasting company. Todd overlooks all aspects of the roastery, and primarily looks after all of our wholesale accounts, as well as creating a lot of our marketing material and dealing with finance. He’s always on the lookout for people who like good coffee, but he won’t give you the hard sell – he’s all about customer service, and making sure that if we work together you are always happy with what we do.

On Fridays, Todd will be found in the roastery playing hip hop music.

Courtney Brennan – Head Roaster

Courtney has a long background in coffee, beginning his career working as a barista in Edinburgh’s Project Coffee, before stints at Wellington Coffee and Castello Coffee where the quality of coffee is well known in the city. A product designer by trade, Courtney spent time in Oslo where he was inspired by the coffee culture there – spending a lot of time at Tim Wendelboe and Fuglen – and began work on his own coffee brewer: Balance. He wanted to bring some of that philosophy back to Scotland, and he has made a postive impact on the team at Avenue with a creative and efficient approach to roasting and production.

Heather Thomson – Roasting Assistant | Barista Trainer

Heather’s coffee journey began back in 2014 as a barista at a local roastery/cafe, before taking the jump into speciality. She’s been part of the team at Avenue since June ’15 working as a barista in our Great Western Road store as well as organising and teaching at our various Evening classes alongside Ryan.

When not brewing, roasting or reading about coffee Heather’s free time is mostly split between drinking it at other shops around the city, and shaking off all that excess caffiene rock climbing. This year she has travellled to volunteer at coffee events in Dublin (World of Coffee) and Estonia (Barista Camp). Her ambitions for 2017 are to use those experiences at coffee events to compete at Brewers Cup and UKBC’s.

Ryan Garrick – Roasting Assistant | Barista Trainer

The mind behind some of our original drinks, Ryan is always looking to innovate and provide something special for our customers that you won’t see anywhere else.
As a trainer for both our wholesale & public customers Ryan aims to pass on the passion for speciality coffee by giving real insight into what we do to improve the life of the farmers and how we at Avenue are constantly progressing our coffee process through tasting and other analysis.
Outside of coffee Ryan studies and practices as a sports remedial therapist, so not only will he make you an excellent brew he’ll sort your lower back pain into the bargain
